EVENING EMBERS 076: REST LIKE A CHILD

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 076

SCRIPTURE

“Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother. My soul is within me like a weaned child.”

Psalm 131:2

DEVOTIONAL

A child at rest is not managing the house.

The doors, weather, provisions, and unanswered questions belong to someone larger. Psalm 131 offers this image to a soul accustomed to supervising what it cannot control.

Tonight, notice the household you are trying to manage from bed—the future, another person’s choices, the consequences of an unfinished task. Place each one beyond your reach and within God’s care.

You are permitted to rest without keeping watch over everything.

INSIGHT

Childlike rest accepts that safety is finally grounded in the care of God rather than our continual vigilance.

REFLECTION

What are you still trying to supervise tonight?

What would it mean to rest as one cared for rather than one in control?

PRAYER

God, quiet my vigilant soul. Receive the people, outcomes, and questions I cannot manage tonight, and let me rest as one held in Your care. Amen.

BENEDICTION

Rest like a child.

God remains awake without your help.
