SCRIPTURE

“He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Micah 6:8

DEVOTIONAL

Justice can feel too large for an ordinary afternoon.

Yet much of justice enters the world through small doors: telling the truth when distortion would benefit you, giving someone the hearing you would want, refusing to use power carelessly, paying what is owed, or correcting a judgment made too quickly.

The next just thing may be close enough to touch.

Mercy does not weaken it. Humility does not excuse us from it. Together they keep justice from becoming another way to exalt ourselves.

You do not have to repair the whole world before supper. But you can refuse to add another crooked measure to it.

INSIGHT

The scale of an action does not determine the faithfulness contained within it.

REFLECTION

What is the next just thing available to you?

How can mercy and humility accompany it?

PRAYER

Yahweh, sharpen my attention to the good within reach. Give me courage to act justly, tenderness to love mercy, and humility to walk without self-display. Amen.
