SCRIPTURE

“Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother. My soul is within me like a weaned child.”

Psalm 131:2

DEVOTIONAL

The soul often wakes already reaching.

It reaches for reassurance, accomplishment, attention, certainty, or control. The psalmist describes a soul that has learned another posture: quieted like a child resting with its mother.

This quiet is not indifference. It is desire released from the demand to be satisfied immediately. Name what your soul is reaching for, then allow it to rest near God without grasping.

You can begin the day held before anything has been obtained.

INSIGHT

A quieted soul still has desires, but it no longer requires those desires to rule the present moment.

REFLECTION

What is your soul reaching for this morning?

Can that desire rest in God’s presence without being answered immediately?

PRAYER

God, still the restless reaching within me. Hold my desires without letting them govern my peace, and teach my soul to rest near You. Amen.
