DAWN WATCH 079: ASK BEFORE YOU ASSUME

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 079

SCRIPTURE

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

James 1:5 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL

Not knowing is an honest place to begin.

We sometimes hide uncertainty beneath a quick answer. We want to appear capable, avoid delaying others, or escape the discomfort of being undecided. James gives another beginning: ask God for wisdom.

Wisdom is needed in the details of ordinary life. How should this truth be spoken? Which commitment can be kept? What needs further understanding before a decision is made? God does not shame the person who comes with a real lack.

Bring today’s uncertainty into prayer before you cover it with confidence. Make room for Scripture, thoughtful counsel, and the facts you still need to gather. Asking is the first faithful action, not an interruption of it.

INSIGHT

Humility makes uncertainty a place where wisdom can be received.

REFLECTION

What are you tempted to answer before you understand it?

What question needs to be brought to God this morning?

PRAYER

God of wisdom, I bring You what I do not know. Keep me teachable, patient, and honest. Guide me through Your Word and through counsel that helps me see clearly. Amen.

BENEDICTION

Begin with an honest question.

God does not shame your need for wisdom.
