MIDDAY BEARINGS 079: LISTEN LONG ENOUGH
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 079
SCRIPTURE
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
James 1:5 (KJV)
DEVOTIONAL
A request for wisdom may be answered through something we would rather hurry past.
Another person offers a detail that complicates our preferred plan. A passage of Scripture exposes the motive beneath our certainty. A practical limit tells us that the good thing we want cannot be done in the way we imagined.
Listening requires room for correction. Before the next decision, ask whether you have heard only what confirms your own direction. Give the overlooked fact or quieter voice a fair hearing.
God’s generosity does not make us infallible. It invites us to become teachable. Receive what is true even when it requires a slower answer or a different path.
INSIGHT
Receiving wisdom includes allowing truth to interrupt our preferred conclusion.
REFLECTION
What fact or counsel have you been brushing aside?
Where would a slower answer make room for better understanding?
PRAYER
Father, help me listen beyond what I wanted to hear. Give me discernment to recognize sound counsel and courage to change direction when truth requires it. Amen.
BENEDICTION
Listen long enough to be taught.
A corrected course can be a mercy.
