DAWN WATCH 088: STRENGTH IN A GENTLE ANSWER
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 088
SCRIPTURE
“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”
Proverbs 15:1 (KJV)
DEVOTIONAL
Gentleness is sometimes mistaken for having nothing firm to say.
A soft answer can carry a clear boundary, an honest disagreement, or a necessary correction. Its strength lies in refusing to add needless heat to the truth. Proverbs asks us to notice what our manner of speech can stir up.
Think of a conversation you expect today. What needs to be said plainly? What can be left out because it serves only your frustration? Prepare the truth without preparing a wound.
You cannot guarantee another person’s response. This proverb offers wisdom for your conduct, not control over theirs. Ask God for the steadiness to speak with both courage and care, especially when the conversation does not go as you hoped.
INSIGHT
Gentleness can make room for clear truth without promising control over another person’s reaction.
REFLECTION
What truth needs a calm voice today?
Which unnecessary phrase would add heat rather than clarity?
PRAYER
Lord, give me strength that does not depend on harshness. Help me speak what is needed with a steady voice and a heart free from the desire to wound. Amen.
BENEDICTION
Prepare the truth with care.
Gentleness need not surrender courage.
