MIDDAY BEARINGS 010 - USE TODAY’S STRENGTH

Provision is not truly received until it is trusted.

Tuesday, August 4, 2026 · The Pilgrimage, Day 10

“As thy days, so shall thy strength be.”

Deuteronomy 33:25

SAVING YOURSELF FOR TOMORROW

Sometimes God provides strength for the day, and we are afraid to use it.

We hold something in reserve because the road ahead appears uncertain. We hesitate to spend our attention, offer our compassion, begin the work, or enter the conversation because tomorrow may require more than we possess.

So we ration ourselves against an imagined scarcity.

This can look like wisdom. Sometimes it is. Bodies require limits. Work requires pacing. Stewardship does not mean draining every vessel simply because something remains inside it.

But fear can imitate stewardship.

Fear whispers that if you give yourself faithfully to this day, there may be nothing left when the next one arrives. It treats present grace as the final supply God intends to provide.

Daily bread asks for a different trust.

The Father who gave strength for today has not exhausted Himself.

SPEND WHAT WAS GIVEN FOR THIS MILE

Look at the remainder of the day.

What are you withholding because you fear tomorrow?

Perhaps it is not energy but tenderness. You are protecting yourself from disappointment by refusing to hope.

Perhaps it is attention. You are saving your mind for future work while giving nothing wholehearted to the task before you.

Perhaps it is obedience. You want assurance that another provision will follow before using the one already placed in your hands.

Do not waste today’s bread by worshiping tomorrow’s hunger.

Use what has been given for the purpose for which it arrived. Work with attention. Rest without guilt. Offer kindness without calculating whether you can afford to remain kind forever.

You do not need strength for forever.

You need strength for the faithfulness presently being asked of you.

When tomorrow comes, it will not find the Father empty-handed.

PRAYER

Father, teach me the difference between wise limits and fearful withholding.

Give me courage to use today’s strength for today’s obedience. Keep me from treating Your present provision as though it were Your final provision.

I trust You with the hunger and labor that have not yet arrived.

Amen.

CONTINUE

Receive the strength assigned to this day.

Spend it where love and faithfulness require.

Tomorrow’s portion remains with the Giver.
