DAWN WATCH 010 - BREAD FOR THIS MILE

Tomorrow’s hunger cannot consume today’s grace.

Tuesday, August 4, 2026 · The Pilgrimage, Day 10

“Give us this day our daily bread.”

Matthew 6:11

ENOUGH FOR TODAY

Israel gathered manna one morning at a time.

Each dawn, provision waited on the ground. It was enough for the day before them—not enough to silence every fear about the wilderness ahead.

When fear tried to preserve tomorrow’s portion, the bread spoiled in their hands.

There is a difference between wise preparation and attempting to possess tomorrow. One is stewardship. The other is anxiety building itself a pantry and calling the shelves peace.

Jesus taught us to ask for daily bread because grace is received in the same measure.

Strength for this conversation.

Wisdom for this decision.

Patience for this person.

Courage for this mile.

We exhaust ourselves when we try to eat tomorrow’s bread today. We imagine future grief, rehearse future scarcity, and carry responsibilities that have not yet arrived. Then we wonder why our souls feel burdened before the day has properly begun.

GATHER WHAT HAS BEEN GIVEN

Look closely at what God has placed on the ground this morning.

Perhaps you do not possess everything the journey may eventually require. But you may have enough strength for the work immediately before you. You may have one person willing to help, one hour of clear thought, one open door, or one quiet place to pray.

Do not overlook today’s provision because it does not resemble a lifetime supply.

Manna was small.

It was still bread.

Receive what has been given. Use it faithfully. Leave tomorrow’s hunger in the hands of the God who will already be there when it arrives.

PRAYER

Father, forgive me for carrying days You have not yet given me.

Open my eyes to the bread placed before me now. Teach me to receive today’s provision without fear, waste, or complaint.

Give me grace for this mile, and keep tomorrow where it belongs—in Your hands.

Amen.

BENEDICTION

May you recognize the bread scattered across this morning.

May it be enough for the ground beneath you.

And may tomorrow find you beneath the same faithful hand that feeds you today.
