MIDDAY BEARINGS 009 - THE GROUND IN FRONT OF YOU
When the horizon remains hidden, return to the step you have been given.

“Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.”
Proverbs 4:26
WHEN THE MIND RUNS AHEAD
By midday, the feet may still be in one place while the mind has traveled fifty miles ahead.
It has imagined the unanswered call, the next expense, the uncertain opportunity, and every turn the road might take. It has tried conversations that have not occurred and defended decisions no one has questioned.
The body sits beneath today’s sun.
The mind is already living beneath next month’s weather.
This is how anxiety makes a short road exhausting. It persuades you to travel every possible future without allowing you to arrive anywhere.
God may not have revealed the horizon because the horizon is not where your obedience is presently required.
Your responsibility remains on the ground in front of you.
RECOVER YOUR ATTENTION
Ask three simple questions:
Where am I?
What has God placed in my hands?
What is the next faithful thing?
The answer may not feel important enough.
Finish the page.
Make the call.
Wash the dish.
Listen to the person in front of you.
Complete the work already begun.
Take the rest your body actually requires.
Faithfulness often appears unimpressive because it belongs to the present rather than the imagined future. Yet the path is built from ordinary steps taken where your feet truly are.
Do not confuse mental distance with progress.
You are not behind because you cannot see the whole road. You are only being asked to remain present long enough to recognize the portion illuminated for you.
Bring your attention back from the horizon.
Place it beneath your feet.
Then take the step that is actually yours.
PRAYER
Father, gather my thoughts from every road they have tried to travel without You.
Return me to the place where my body, my responsibility, and Your present grace meet. Show me the next faithful step and quiet my demand to see beyond it.
Establish my way as I walk with You.
Amen.
CONTINUE
Leave the horizon in God’s keeping.
Attend to the ground He has given you.
One faithful step is enough to resume the pilgrimage.
