MIDDAY BEARINGS - 020: COME BACK TO THIS DAY
You do not need tomorrow's answers to be faithful this afternoon.
Pilgrimage, Day 20 • Friday, August 14, 2026
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow.”
Matthew 6:34
PAUSE
The mind travels easily by midday.
Perhaps this morning began with today's work.
Now you are thinking about next week.
A decision.
A deadline.
Money.
A conversation.
Something uncertain waiting farther down the road.
Nothing has changed in the room.
But inside, you have left Friday.
Come back.
SCRIPTURE
Jesus does not command carelessness.
He teaches trust.
Tomorrow will require wisdom.
Tomorrow may require courage.
Tomorrow may ask something costly.
But tomorrow's grace belongs to tomorrow.
Today's strength is not designed to live several days at once.
MIDDAY BEARING
Ask:
Before I step into this next block, whose am I, and how can I express that identity faithfully in what I'm about to do?
Then narrow your field of vision.
What is actually required before the end of this block?
What can be acted upon now?
What cannot?
If there is an action, take it.
If there is no action, return the future to God.
REFLECTION
What future concern has been following you through the day?
Write it down if necessary.
Then ask:
Is this a present responsibility or a future possibility?
If it is present, respond.
If it is future, release it.
Worry and preparation are not the same thing.
One acts.
The other circles.
SCRIPTURE FOR THE AFTERNOON
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
1 Peter 5:7
MIDDAY PRAYER
Father,
My mind keeps running ahead.
Bring me back.
Give me enough wisdom for this hour.
Enough courage for this task.
Enough grace for this conversation.
Where action is possible, make me faithful.
Where nothing can yet be done, teach me to trust.
I return the future to You.
Amen.
THRESHOLD
Write down the concern pulling your attention toward tomorrow.
Beside it, write one of two words:
ACTION
or
RELEASE
If action is possible, schedule or complete it.
If not, put the note away.
Then return fully to this block.
BENEDICTION
May your attention return to the ground beneath your feet.
May tomorrow remain in God's hands until it becomes today.
Come back. This day still has grace in it.
