MIDDAY BEARINGS 029: RETURN TO THE FIRST MERCY
SUNDAY, AUGUST 23, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 029
SCRIPTURE
“Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”
Psalm 90:14
DEVOTIONAL
Morning mercy can be forgotten by noon.
The day gathers evidence: what went wrong, what remains undone, who disappointed you, where you fell short. Without noticing, you begin asking accomplishment, approval, or control to satisfy you.
Pause here.
The mercy that met you before the day began has not expired. God’s loving kindness is not a morning ration that runs out when the schedule becomes complicated.
You may still need to repair something. You may still need to finish the work. But you do not have to do either as a person abandoned to prove your worth.
Return to the first mercy. Let it reset your bearings.
INSIGHT
The soul often needs to receive at midday what it believed at dawn.
REFLECTION
What have you been asking to satisfy you today?
Where do you need to return to mercy rather than push harder for worth?
PRAYER
Father, I have wandered from the mercy that began this day. Bring me back. Let Your steadfast love steady my heart and reshape the hours that remain. Amen.
BENEDICTION
Return to the first gift.
Mercy has not moved.
