EVENING EMBERS 027: LET THE ANSWER WAIT

SCRIPTURE
“Wait for Yahweh. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for Yahweh.”
Psalm 27:14
DEVOTIONAL
Perhaps the answer did not come.
The phone stayed quiet.
The decision remains undecided.
The situation is no clearer than it was this morning.
You prayed.
You acted responsibly.
You tried not to grip the outcome.
Still, darkness arrives with the question open.
Waiting can feel different at night.
During the day there are tasks to absorb attention.
Movement disguises uncertainty.
But quiet gives unanswered things room to become loud.
Psalm 27 knows danger, enemies, fear, longing, confidence, and waiting.
David is not waiting because nothing matters.
He waits because something matters deeply and remains beyond his control.
“Wait for Yahweh.”
Waiting in Scripture is not empty inactivity.
It is trust stretched across time.
There are moments when faithfulness means action.
There are others when another action would only be an attempt to escape uncertainty.
Knowing the difference is difficult.
Maybe you could send another message tonight.
Check again.
Look for another sign.
Search one more time.
Reopen the decision.
Sometimes that is necessary.
Often it is just movement pretending to be progress.
Waiting asks more from us.
It asks us to remain without forcing.
To care without possessing.
To hope without demanding.
To let God’s timing remain different from ours.
This is especially hard when we believe we already know what the right answer should be.
Perhaps you do.
It may even be a good answer.
But goodness does not place God beneath our timetable.
Jesus Himself prayed for the cup to pass and still surrendered Himself to the Father.
Christian trust has always contained both request and release.
You can ask boldly.
You can hope strongly.
You can tell God exactly what you want.
Then you can sleep before receiving it.
That may be tonight’s obedience.
No manufactured peace.
No pretending uncertainty feels pleasant.
Just refusal to let uncertainty keep extending the day.
You have carried the question far enough for one Friday.
Set it down.
If an answer comes tomorrow, you can receive it tomorrow.
If waiting continues, grace can continue too.
You do not need to solve waiting.
You only need to stop fighting the fact that you are in it.
INSIGHT
Waiting is not the absence of faithfulness.
Sometimes it is faithfulness when action has reached its proper limit.
Trust allows a question to remain unanswered without demanding that uncertainty be removed before we rest.
REFLECTION
What answer did you hope to have by now?
Have you done what is responsibly yours to do?
Would another action tonight be obedience, or simply an attempt to escape waiting?
PRAYER
Father, You know the answer I want and how difficult it is to leave the matter open. Give me courage to wait without pretending waiting is easy. Hold what I cannot resolve, and keep my hope rooted in You rather than in a particular timetable. Amen.
BENEDICTION
The answer may wait.
You do not have to stay awake beside the question.
God is present in the silence between asking and receiving.
Rest there.
