MIDDAY BEARINGS 073: A GENTLE ANSWER
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 073
SCRIPTURE
“Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.”
Philippians 4:5
DEVOTIONAL
Pressure can make gentleness feel impractical.
When time narrows or misunderstanding rises, the voice tightens. We begin speaking not only to be understood but to control the response. Gentleness interrupts that instinct.
Before the next answer, loosen your grip on the outcome. Say what is true without adding the sentence meant to punish. Ask the clarifying question. Leave room for another person’s dignity even when agreement is not possible.
A gentle answer can carry courage without carrying contempt.
INSIGHT
Gentleness protects truth from becoming a weapon in the hands of fear or frustration.
REFLECTION
Which conversation has sharpened your tone?
What truth can be spoken without the extra edge?
PRAYER
Jesus, govern my next answer. Remove the words meant to wound or control, and help me speak with clarity, courage, and gentleness. Amen.
BENEDICTION
Give truth a gentle voice.
Clarity does not require contempt.
