MIDDAY BEARINGS 089: A SUSTAINABLE YES
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 089
SCRIPTURE
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Galatians 6:9 (KJV)
DEVOTIONAL
Weariness can make every request sound like the final thing you cannot carry.
Sometimes we answer by abandoning a good commitment altogether. Sometimes we say yes to everything and call the exhaustion faithfulness. Neither response gives careful attention to what has actually been entrusted to us.
Look at the work with honesty. What still belongs to you? What can be shared, delayed, or clarified? A sustainable yes may require a truthful no to something else. Ask for help before resentment becomes the voice through which all your service speaks.
Paul’s call to continue in doing good invites endurance, not the performance of unlimited capacity. Choose a pace and a next action that allow care to remain genuine. Faithfulness can include learning how to continue with others.
INSIGHT
Enduring service grows stronger when commitments are honest about capacity and support.
REFLECTION
Which commitment needs help, clarification, or a wiser pace?
What would make today’s yes more truthful?
PRAYER
Lord, help me serve without pretending to be limitless. Guide my commitments, teach me to receive help, and keep generosity from hardening into resentment. Amen.
BENEDICTION
Let your yes be truthful.
Make room for the help that sustains it.
