DAWN WATCH 067: MAKE ROOM TO HEAR
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 067
SCRIPTURE
“So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger.”
James 1:19
DEVOTIONAL
Listening requires room inside us.
We often enter conversation already composing the answer, defending the motive, or deciding what the other person means. James reverses that speed. Be quick to hear and slow to speak.
Today, allow another person’s words to arrive before your response occupies the space. Listening does not require agreement, and slowness is not weakness. It is the discipline of refusing to let reaction speak before understanding has had a chance.
Make room to hear both the person before you and the Spirit within you.
INSIGHT
Listening becomes an act of love when we delay reaction long enough for understanding to enter.
REFLECTION
Which conversation are you already answering in your mind?
What would it mean to hear before defending yourself?
PRAYER
Holy Spirit, make me quick to hear and unhurried in reply. Guard me from assumptions and give me the humility to understand before I speak. Amen.
BENEDICTION
Make room to hear.
A slower answer may carry greater love.
