DAWN WATCH 069: LAY ASIDE THE WEIGHT
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 069
SCRIPTURE
“Let’s lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus.”
Hebrews 12:1–2
DEVOTIONAL
Not every weight is the same as sin.
Some things are simply too heavy for the race before us: an unnecessary obligation, an old expectation, another person’s approval, or the demand to perform every role perfectly.
Hebrews invites us to notice both what entangles and what weighs down. Ask what you are carrying because God assigned it and what you are carrying because you fear setting it down. Perseverance requires more than endurance; it also requires release.
Lay aside what keeps faithful movement from becoming possible.
INSIGHT
Spiritual endurance includes discerning which burdens belong to obedience and which ones only drain it.
REFLECTION
What weight is making today’s race harder than it needs to be?
What fear has kept you from setting it down?
PRAYER
Jesus, show me what belongs in this race and what does not. Free me from sin, needless weight, and the fear of disappointing expectations You never assigned. Amen.
BENEDICTION
Lay aside the unnecessary weight.
Faithfulness needs room to move.
