EVENING EMBERS 069: THE RACE CAN PAUSE
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 069
SCRIPTURE
“Let’s lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus.”
Hebrews 12:1–2
DEVOTIONAL
Perseverance is not constant motion.
A runner who never receives rest eventually loses the strength to continue. Evening is not abandonment of the race. It is part of how the body and spirit are prepared for another stretch.
Set down the unfinished distance. You have run the hours you were given. Confess where you became entangled, receive grace for what remained incomplete, and let Jesus be the final object of your attention.
The course will still be there after sleep.
INSIGHT
Rest supports perseverance by accepting that faithful limits belong within the race rather than outside it.
REFLECTION
Where are you confusing perseverance with refusal to stop?
What distance can remain unfinished tonight?
PRAYER
Jesus, receive the course I traveled today. Untangle what caught me, forgive where I wandered, and restore my strength as I rest with my eyes on You. Amen.
BENEDICTION
The race can pause.
Rest is part of the faithful course.
