EVENING EMBERS 088: SET DOWN THE LAST WORD

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 088

SCRIPTURE

“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

Proverbs 15:1 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL

An argument can continue long after the other person has gone.

You compose a better answer, then a sharper one. You imagine the sentence that would finally make your position undeniable. The search for the last word keeps the conflict active inside the night.

Ask whether anything practical remains for tonight. Perhaps a clarification should be written for tomorrow, or an apology should be offered. Attend to what is truly needed without using another message to discharge the whole weight of frustration.

Then set down the imagined debate. God does not need you to win every conversation before you sleep. Entrusting the outcome to Him leaves room for a wiser response, a needed repair, or a boundary that can be considered with a rested mind.

INSIGHT

Releasing the last word can make space for a wiser next response.

REFLECTION

Which conversation are you continuing in your imagination?

What practical follow-up belongs to tomorrow rather than tonight?

PRAYER

God, receive the words I keep rehearsing. Show me any repair that is needed, and free me from the demand to win the conversation before I rest. Amen.

BENEDICTION

Set down the last word.

Let the night hold room for peace.
