MIDDAY BEARINGS 059: PEACE IN THE BOAT

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 059

SCRIPTURE

“He awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ The wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”

Mark 4:39

DEVOTIONAL

Sometimes the sea remains rough after we begin praying.

We want immediate calm as proof that Christ has heard us. Yet His presence can steady the heart before the water settles.

Pause inside the movement of this day. Notice the fear beneath your hurry. Ask Jesus to speak peace first into the place from which your reactions are coming.

A peaceful heart can still make urgent decisions. It simply refuses to let panic become captain.

INSIGHT

Christ’s peace can govern our response even before circumstances become calm.

REFLECTION

Where has panic begun directing your actions?

What would a peaceful but faithful response look like?

PRAYER

Jesus, speak peace into the part of me reacting to the waves. Keep panic from taking command, and guide my next action with clarity and trust. Amen.

BENEDICTION

Let peace take the helm.

Urgency does not have to become panic.
