EVENING EMBERS 059: THE GREAT CALM
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 059
SCRIPTURE
“He awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ The wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
Mark 4:39
DEVOTIONAL
Calm can arrive outside us, inside us, or both.
Perhaps the storm passed today. Perhaps the circumstances remain unsettled, but fear no longer owns every thought. Either form of calm is mercy.
Do not rush past it. Let the body notice where tension has released. Give thanks for every place Christ’s authority became more real than the wind.
And if the sea is still moving, rest beside the One who can speak to it.
INSIGHT
Calm is not merely quiet weather; it is the restoration of rightful authority over what fear tried to rule.
REFLECTION
Where did calm appear today?
What remaining storm needs to stay in Christ’s care tonight?
PRAYER
Jesus, thank You for every wind You quieted and every fear You restrained. Remain Lord over what is still unsettled, and give me rest near You. Amen.
BENEDICTION
The wind is not lord.
Rest beside the One who speaks peace.
