MIDDAY BEARINGS 032: STOP GRIPPING
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 032
SCRIPTURE
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10
DEVOTIONAL
Notice what your hands are doing inside your life.
Are they receiving, tending, and releasing? Or have they closed around an outcome, a conversation, or a person you cannot control?
Stillness is sometimes the opening of a clenched hand.
The psalm does not promise that every conflict will resolve by noon. It gives us something steadier: God remains God in the middle of what has not resolved.
Take one unhurried breath. Name what you are gripping. You do not have to stop caring. You can care without claiming sovereignty.
INSIGHT
Surrender is not indifference; it is love released from the illusion of control.
REFLECTION
What outcome are you gripping most tightly?
What would it mean to place it in God’s hands for the rest of this day?
PRAYER
God, my hands have closed around what I cannot govern. Loosen my fear. Teach me to act faithfully and release what belongs to You alone. Amen.
BENEDICTION
Open the clenched hand.
God can hold what you release.
