WHEN THE COUNTRY CLOSES IN
Some guidance arrives as an open door.
Some arrives as the road narrowing until only one faithful direction remains.
We naturally welcome expansion. More choices feel like freedom. More opportunities feel like favor. Yet too many open roads can scatter a person until he spends his strength moving without ever traveling anywhere.
The Father sometimes guides by reducing what can be carried forward.
A plan stalls.
An appetite loses its hold.
A familiar opportunity no longer fits.
A pace once sustained becomes impossible.
Not every obstacle is a message from God, and not every closed door is sacred. Discernment requires more than giving spiritual meaning to frustration. But neither should every narrowing be treated as an enemy.
Some gates protect the road.
DO NOT KICK EVERY GATE
When the way tightens, resist the urge to force an immediate opening.
Stand still long enough to listen.
What is being removed?
What is being protected?
What has become too heavy for the path ahead?
Perhaps the Lord is not withholding the journey. Perhaps He is keeping your soul from scattering across roads you were never assigned to travel.
A narrow path requires attention. You must watch where you place your feet. You must release whatever cannot pass between the stones. You must remain close enough to the Shepherd to hear Him.
That dependence may be the kindness hidden inside the narrowing.
PRAYER
Father, give me wisdom when the road closes in.
Keep me from calling every obstacle Your will, but keep me also from fighting every boundary You permit. Show me what must be released and where faithfulness still remains possible.
Make me attentive to Your voice and content with the road You have given me.
Amen.
BENEDICTION
May the narrowing road gather what has been scattered within you.
May every unnecessary weight fall away.
And may the Shepherd’s voice remain nearer than the country you cannot yet see.
