MIDDAY BEARINGS 097: SET DOWN THE BORROWED WEIGHT

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2026 • PILGRIMAGE DAY 097

SCRIPTURE

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL

Not every burden in your hands began as your responsibility.

You may be carrying another person’s reaction, an imagined expectation, or a task you accepted without an honest conversation about capacity. Compassion can become confused with the duty to prevent every disappointment.

Ask what is truly yours in this hour. You may need to complete a promise, clarify a limit, or return a decision to the person who owns it. Do this with care rather than using the language of boundaries to dismiss a real obligation.

God’s care makes room for truthful limits. You can remain loving without becoming responsible for every outcome around you. Set down the borrowed weight so that what actually belongs in your hands can receive the attention it needs.

INSIGHT

Truthful limits help us care for real responsibilities without assuming ownership of every outcome.

REFLECTION

Which burden may belong to someone else’s choice or response?

What promise or limit needs a clear conversation?

PRAYER

Lord, help me distinguish compassion from the attempt to control every outcome. Give me honesty about my commitments and kindness in naming the limits I need. Amen.

BENEDICTION

Set down the weight that is not yours.

Give faithful care to what remains.
